Setting Up Mercnet DOS

Using Kali95

The Necessary Steps

  • Download DOSBox
  • Install DOSBox
  • Download Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries - (657 Meg ZIP file)
    This is the full game with CD music!
  • Open the Mercs-Package.zip file
  • Unzip DOSImage-iso-folder to C:\DOSImage\iso
  • Unzip Mercs_folder\Mercs to C:\DOSImages\Mercs
  • Unzip Mechwarrior 2 - Mercs Shortcut to Desktop
  • Right click on the short-cut and select properties. Make sure the target looks like this:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\DOSBox-0.74\DOSBox.exe" -conf "c:\dosimage\iso\mercs.conf"
    The desktop short-cut is setup to play on Mech2.org, and use the Netmech Chat page.

  • Download Kali and get a free product key/serial number.
  • Install Kali
  • Open Kali
  • Before openning Kali make sure you have Port forwarded post 2213 to your network IP in your network router. This setting would be under the NAT settings on most routers.
  • Select File -> Settings
  • Enter the product key and serial number information and at least your nickname
  • Kali product key and serial number
  • Under the Advanced tag select your IP from the dropdown and make sure 2213 is in the Local Port box, and tracker.kali.net is in the Kali Tracker box.

  • In the NAT/Proxy tab enable both NAT Settings check boxes and enter 2231 in the NAT Port box.

  • Click OK
  • Select a Kali Server from the left menu, and enter Chat mode
  • Right click game bar -> Add New Game
  • Kali Add New Game
  • Select Netmech
  • Select Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries
  • Select Mechwarrior 2: Mercs
  • File Name should be: C:\Program Files (x86)\DOSBox-0.74\DOSBox.exe
  • Cmd Line Args should be: -conf "c:\dosimage\iso\mercskali.conf"
  • Mechwarrior 2: Mercs Kali Setup
  • Pick an icon to use if one is not already selected.
  • Click Apply, then OK
  • To Start a game double click the Mercs icon from the game bar.

Using Mech2.Org

The Necessary Steps

  • Download DOSBox
  • Install DOSBox
  • Download Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries - (657 Meg ZIP file)
  • Open the Mercs-Package.zip file
  • Unzip DOSImage-iso-folder to C:\DOSImage\iso
  • Unzip Mercs_folder\Mercs to C:\DOSImages\Mercs
  • Unzip Mechwarrior 2 - Mercs Shortcut to Desktop
  • Open properties of shortcut file and make sure the target looks like this:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\DOSBox-0.74\DOSBox.exe" -conf "c:\dosimage\iso\mercs.conf"
  • Mechwarrior 2: Mercs Shortcut
  • In the C:\DOSImage\iso folder open mercs.conf
  • Add the following line after this one "cd mercs"
    IPXNET CONNECT mech2.org 10001
  • If you have DOSBox installed just double click the shortcut.
    This package includes the CD iso with music tracks!
